Fun Run Information

A family fun run with a festive twist, all in aid of Weston Hospicecare.

All entrants aged 14 and over  will receive a Santa suit which they can keep or give to us to re-cycle. For those aged 13 and under we encourage Elf or Santa fancy dress for which there will be awards. All entrants will receive a medal,  a mince pie, and a drink.

There will be two race courses: one of 1km for those wish to walk or run at a more leisurely pace (pushchairs and well behaved dogs on leads will be welcome); and the second separate course is two laps of 2.5Km for more  serious runners.

Please note: This is not a race, but a fun day out for the whole family.

We strongly encourage all participants to raise sponsorship money for Weston Hospicecare.

The fun run commences at 11am prompt, but the entertainment starts from 10am (music and warm up, elf hat making for children etc). Those intending to run will be invited to start first, followed by the joggers, the plodders, the walkers, the strollers, the amblers, the dog walkers (on a short lead please), the pushchairs, etc.

The serious runners will start the 5km course separately.

Check-in will be open from 9.30 am. Please register and collect your suit by 10.30 for the warm-up and to enjoy the wonderful Christmas ambiance.

Route and footwear

One lap of the short course is exactly 1km.This route is just south of the main buildings and is partly on grass and part hardcore following a route around the bottom of the lake and up the lane to the main buildings. This route can largely be seen from the start/finish area. How many laps you choose to be sponsored for is up to you.

Just follow the Santa in front of you and you will arrive at the finish – no need to rush, just take your time and enjoy being with lots of other friendly “runners”. We have mince pies and drinks for all participants. We have done our best to provide a safe environment for all participants and spectators.

The long course is 5km. comprising two laps  of a separate 2.0 km course plus one lap of the short course to complete an interesting 5km. You can choose to do 10km if you wish.  Please note, this course goes outside the Winchester Farm grounds. This route is on uneven hardcore or tarmac and after leaving Winchester Farm (no public roads are used) the course follows Labourum and Cheddar Moor Droves back to Winchester Farm.

It’s your day out, so just do what you can manage. Bearing in mind the event is taking place in December, we recommended that you wear appropriate footwear as the course is a mix of grass and hard surface– it has been known to rain and sometimes snow in December!

Don’t forget nobody is counting the number of laps you do! That is up to you to declare to your sponsors!

Toilet facilities

There will be toilet facilities in the event area including those with disabled access.

First aid

First aid services will be provided around the start/finish area and strategic points along the circuit. Route marshals and first aiders will be in radio and mobile phone contact with the safety officer based in the start/finish area so, if assistance is required, it can be provided in a timely fashion.

Lost children

Lost children should be taken to the main reception barn. Likewise, adults having lost children should report in at the same place. The point of contact will be signposted.

Parking

Parking is FREE on site.  Cars are only to be parked in the designated area to which you will be directed (this is to ensure access for emergency vehicles). In addition, only vehicles displaying a current disabled badge may be parked in the area allocated to disabled entrants.

Event rules

There are not too many rules – let’s not forget it is a fun day - just a few for the safety of all! Entrants must obey the directions given by the Marshals (normally wearing yellow hi-vis jackets). Only those that have paid the entrance fee may participate – don’t forget it is a charity event.

Any Santa suits that have not been collected by 10.45am will be retained by the event organisers.

Dogs must be kept on short leads and under proper control.  Please be considerate to other participants.

All rubbish must be disposed of in the receptacles provided, or taken home.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
